Flora of the Santa Cruz Sandhills

The Santa Cruz Sandhills support a unique and diverse assemblage of plant species including:

• Four endemic plants found nowhere else in the world
• Undescribed taxa including ecotypes, subspecies, and species
• Disjunct populations of species typically found on the coast or in the mountains

These and other plants within the Sandhills have several fascinating adaptations for growth in the low nutrient, low soil moisture conditions created by the Zayante sand soil.
